What's in the box

One LoveInABottle Tree keepsake, 7.9 inches tall and 2.7 inches wide, with a red ribbon so it can hang on a tree or stand on a shelf. The recorder sits in the white base, under the tree. The cork comes out when you record and when you play it back.

Nothing Else in the Decorations Box Can Talk.

Glass balls, tinsel, the lights, the star for the top. All of it is something to look at. Then there is one bottle hanging with the rest of them, and when you take the cork out your kid is talking.

There is video on your phone, of course. It sits under everything you have filmed since, and most years it stays there. You haul the decorations box down every December, and the bottle is in it.

"She called me Mommy Sunshine. I have it recorded." is how Amy R. put it.

Record It Once. Pull the Cork Every Christmas.

Take the cork out. Hold the bottle up and let them say whatever they say. Push the cork back in and their voice is sealed in there.

Then it goes on the tree. In January it goes back in the box with the rest of the decorations, and next December you pull the cork again.

No app, no account, no pairing. Whoever you give it to takes the cork out and hears it, with nothing to set up first.

A Four Year Old Saying Merry Christmas

A girl saying something into the open bottle while her mother listens

Merry Christmas, said by somebody who is four

What they are asking Santa for this year

Their own name, and how old they are right now

The carol they know two lines of

I love you, said at the end without being asked

One Day They Will Be Twenty, Listening to Themselves at Four

This December they say it into the bottle. Next December you take the cork out and there they are again, four years old, saying Merry Christmas in a voice they have already half grown out of.

Keep going and it gets better than that. One Christmas they are old enough to take the cork out themselves, and a grown adult stands in your living room listening to a four year old they cannot remember being.

She recorded him at two and a half

"My boy recorded himself saying 'I love you to the moon and back, Mommy.' He was two and a half. He's five now and his voice is completely different. I can't tell you how much this means to me."

Laura B., replayed it two and a half years later

Record it, hang it on the tree and pull the cork a few times over the holidays. Sixty days is long enough to know whether it is something you will keep coming back to.

If it isn't, email us before those sixty days are up and we refund what you paid for the bottle. There is no form to fill in and nobody will ask you to justify it. We only ask that you cover the return postage.

Their Voice Will Never Sound Like This Again

Recording takes about a minute, and it stays in there for every Christmas after this one. The only version of their voice you can still catch is the one they have today.

Questions People Ask

How does it actually work?

The cork does both jobs. Out to record, in to keep it, out again to hear it. There is no app and no account, so whoever unwraps it can work it out without being told.

How many messages does it hold?

One, and that is the point of it. Leave it alone and the same voice is in there every December for as long as you own it. You can record over it if you ever want to, and the old message goes when you do.

How big is it?

7.9 inches tall and 2.7 inches wide. The ribbon hangs it on a tree and the flat base stands it on a shelf.

What is worth recording?

Whatever you would miss hearing. Ask them a question and record the answer. Ask them to sing. Or hold it out, say nothing, and keep whatever comes.

When should I record it?

Now, while they still sound like this. Record it before the tree comes down and you have it for every Christmas after.

Still opens it every day
I recorded my son saying "mama" for the first time. They're four now and say "mom" like everyone else. I still open the bottle every single day.

My daughter recorded herself singing Happy Birthday to me. I've listened to it 200 times.

I was not prepared for it
She said "I love you more than all the stars." I was not prepared for how much I'd need to hear that again.

She has no memory of it. I do.
I recorded my daughter singing her made-up bedtime song. She's seven now and has no memory of it. I do. I always will.

Two and a half, now five
